Frugal Food Shopping
How to save money on your food and wine!
- Make a list!
- Stick to the list!
- Online shopping can save you money because you're less likely to impulse
buy.
- Think about what you threw away this week - foodwise. Apparently we
throw away about 1/3 of the food we buy every week. A third! A massive
amount!!!!!!!!!!!!
Think about it logically - if you buy less food you'll throw less out.
- Check the sell by dates on food you buy. Will you eat it in time?
- Don't take the kids shopping if they help you impulse buy.
- Don't impulse buy. Do you need 24 donuts?
- Check out the special offers your grocery shops have.
most supermarkets do special offers on things - some have the ends of
the ailses filled with special offers and BOGOFs. These can be great
value if you use the items.
- Always check out the BOGOFs. Think can you freeze perishables? Will
you use it? Does your family like this product? If the answer is no
then don't buy it.
- Don't buy convenience food - find the ones you like and learn to cook
them from scratch.
- Make more than you need and freeze in portions - thus making your
own ready meals
- Try the own brands. You'll almost certainly not notice the difference.
Often the big brand names make products for other companies.
- Don't shop when you're hungry> You're more vulnerable to suggestive
use of bakery smells and will stuff your trolley with french sticks
and donuts.
- Be a coupon clipper. Clip them when you see them - although you might
get shouted at if no one else has read the paper yet. Clip the coupons
you won't use too - and see if you can coupon swap at work.
