Open a savings account too - and one for the kids. Its good to teach kids about saving from an early age.
For kids a money box is the first introduction to money they get. Allow them to save up cash they get given and put it into a bank account. Some children enjoy this more than others so you may have to encourage them by giving them small amounts of money that isn't enough to buy anything with so they get in the habit of putting money in their savings box, or giving them pocket money and suggesting they spend some and save some for later in the week... most of the time they'll leave it in the money box.

Saving money on your debts

If you have debts such as a mortgage, credit card or loan then you need to be paying the lowest rate possible on all of these. Sometimes you should look at combining your savings and mortgage into one account which enables you to benefit from savings.

If you have lots of debts then you could combine them into one loan and find a lower rate to pay it off at.
