Electricity prices keep going up. You can cut your fuel costs
if you invest in alternative energy production...
Less dependence on non-renewable fossil fuels - which means your
gas and electricity bills go down!
Cleaner air as a result of less hydrocarbons being used to make
fuel.
An alternative to nuclear power.
Less carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases.
Remote areas who may find it difficult or costly to get connected
to the grid might find renewables very practical!
Windsave, the inventors, has signed a deal with British Gas to
install and supply its 5ft-wide turbine. In a pilot programme later
this year the household windmills, which can also be mounted on
poles, will be installed on properties, both private and council,
in Scotland and the South-West. Visit the windsave

Navitron
- offer wind turbines at good prices.
If it is successful the turbines will be offered throughout the
country at around £1,500, including installation. The roof-top
model, a small version of the wind farm turbine, is expected to
give around a kilowatt of electricity, supplementing the property's
supply from the National Grid.
It will be enough to power a television set and DVD player, computer,
fridge and freezer and several lights. A cable leads directly from
the turbine to a control box where advanced electronics smooth out
the rough electricity created by the turbine and convert it to mains
frequency for domestic use.

October 2005 - BBC news have a story about a wind turbine -David
Nisbet put up a 6kw turbine in his Essex garden in May, after overcoming
22 planning objections from neighbours about noise and visual impact.
It is 11.5m high to the tip of the blade and it cost him £10,000,
plus a £5,000 grant.

How to work out your local wind speed
Put
your postcode in here
You need the LR number
It will give you two letter and some numbers (two sets of three)
eg: LR is SD897025
Take off the 3rd number in each set
so SD8902
is the number you put into this site
Click
here for the DTI site to put this number in
And it'll show you the average wind speeds

featured in Guardian March 2005
A complete package for refurbishing existing poorly performing
homes available now from ZEDfactory and its partners. Based on
years of groundbreaking research we have given in to the weight
of public enquiries for a kit for existing properties. Comprising
of a set of optional components and renewable energy options the
kit can be applied to any home to reduce demand on the UK’s
resources and our eco-footprint. Recent breakthroughs in the price
of photovoltaics and wind turbines make this option feasible for
many homes.
